Clients and their instructors decide on a goal to work on and track. Clients in this program can work with less supervision, so they may track things like timeliness or their interactions with customers they may come across.

SOC is proud to have provided vocational training for our community's developmentally disabled adults for over 50 years.

Community Endeavors

Our Supported Employment Program provides our higher-functioning clients with community support and employment in small crews, learning job skills and interpersonal skills.

SOC's Community Endeavors program provides our more severely developmentally disabled clients with opportunities to socialize in educational activities and outings that they may not otherwise have. You may have seen us out and about at your place of work!

We offer cooking classes, arts and crafts, and outings to various places throughout the county. We work with our clients to identify goals and ways to achieve them, whether it be getting a certain amount of work done per week, learning a new skill, or approaching a stranger to ask a question. We help our clients build the confidence they need to make their own decisions.

Although most of our clients have a support system at home, our programs provide socialization, work opportunities, and independent living skills training that are so important for any adult, which their home support system may not be able to provide due to finances, transportation costs, etc..

Supported employment

our programs

Currently we serve an average of 35-40 clients daily. Our clients come from all over the county, from Etna to Hornbrook to McCloud and everywhere in between! They also do work in bulk mailing, confidential document shredding, and food pantry shopping and delivery for the Yreka Community Resource Center.  We're also partnered with Kiwanis of the Siskiyous to stuff Easter Eggs for the annual Easter Egg hunt in Yreka.

We have six crews throughout Siskiyou County that contain three or more clients and one Vocational Instructor. Our work crews maintain all three Cal-Trans rest stops in Siskiyou County, where they learn skills in maintaining and stocking storerooms, landscaping, and safely running outdoor power equipment. We also provide cleaning and janitorial services for five special day classrooms in local schools, one car dealership, the CHP Inspection facility and the Mount Shasta City Plaza.
