The Siskiyou Opportunity Center takes pride in offering vocational services that assist disabled individuals in obtaining independence in their lives. We offer training in wood working, recycling, janitorial, landscaping, clerical, and retail sales. We teach our clients valuable skills which they can use to obtain community employment. We offer a variety of other training services that help our clients learn community access skills, relationship building, anger management, communication skills, and basic hygiene and living skills. We are very proud of our consumers and the effort they put into their jobs every day. We will continue to look for new opportunities for our clients. Below you can find more information on some of the specific vocational services we provide.

Training For Independence

We have over 20 work sites within Siskiyou County. We currently serve 50 clients weekly. Our goal is to assist these individuals in the development of work skills, attitudes and behaviors that will increase their productivity, earnings, and self-esteem; and enhance their prospects for movement to supported, or competitive employment.

Employment Services

Our Employment Services include assessments, job development, job placement, trainin, and long term support in securing community employment. Our clients can obtain community employment in a group setting or in an individual placement. Our goal is to develop jobs that match each client's interests and abilities with a job in the local market. For more information about this service see our Community Employment Page.

External Situational Assessments

Our assessments allow clients hands-on experience in a variety of work settings. Our goal is to assess the individuals employment likes and dislikes, as well as what types of work the individual excels at or needs help with. Our assessement lasts for up to 60 hours. When finished we will help the individual determine their "work readiness" and may help him/her obtain a job in their community.

Special Services

The Siskiyou Opportunity Center provides training that assists our employees in overcoming barriers to competitive employment. We have a translator for hearing impaired individuals, we develop and use assistive technology to help our consumers do their jobs, and invite professional traininers to teach hygiene, first aid and safety to our consumers.
