In 1970, Lois Listoe of Dorris, a mother of a developmentally disabled son was searching for work opportunities for him. Finding nothing in Siskiyou County, she gathered like-minded parents and procured SOC's first contract, making marker stakes for highway crews. In its history, SOC has provided its clients with living skills, education, and work skills.

Over 50 years later, SOC provides three programs serving over 60 clients daily by providing a wide range of vocational training, independent living skills, and access to the community. We have clients from all over the county, from McCloud to Etna to Hornbrook and everywhere in between!

Siskiyou Opportunity Center believes that developmentally disabled adults, like all individuals, possess a range of skills and abilities that can be supported and encouraged, so that they may become productive members of their community. In addition to vocational training in janitorial and recycling work, we help them achieve their personal goals by offering training in social skills, appropriate workplace behaviors, and independent living.

See our programs page for more information on how we serve our clients.
